Sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of an idea what developers are talking about. Here is some entry-level info on .NET (dot net) to keep you in the loop.
What is .NET?
The .NET framework provides a platform from which to build applications and web services. It is an extremely wide field with programming variants within it.
It was created by Microsoft to run on their Windows-based operating systems, but it can also run on Linux with a little help from the Mono Project (http://www.mono-project.com/).
I want some techy phrases about .NET to astonish my developer with. What should I say?
While casually leaning, perhaps reading a book, don’t even look up from the book and proclaim: “It’s always been a good enterprise option, but I really like what Microsoft are doing with the latest versions of .NET, they seem to be responding to the competition from open source”.
What is the difference between .NET and ASP.NET?
ASP.NET is part of .NET.
ASP.NET is used for web applications, whereas .NET as a whole can be used for a wider range of applications, such as programs that run on your computer.
Do you use .NET?
Yes, at Eastpoint our software programmers have been working with .NET frameworks since the first version was launched.
Do I need to understand .NET to be involved in the project?
No. It’s just a programming framework, you do not need to understand it. Leave the technical stuff to us. Any questions regarding your requirements will based on what does it do and why, not how it happens underneath the surface.
